Somewhere over the rainbow you can head out for a walk and never come across a problem. Or maybe if you found a problem like a Wicked Witch or an obstruction you could visit your own local footpath Wizard of Oz who’d sort it out for you.
But that’s just a fairy story here in Kirklees where the footpath Wizard of Oz (the Council) really is little more than a trickster with no powers or abilities just like in the film. Our footpath Wizard of Oz ,who we pay handsomely, puts on a great show with policies, procedures and bluster but when it comes to the crunch is more like the cowardly lion missing his courage.
I came across a Wicked Witch of sorts the other evening in the form of some hefty electronic security gates which wouldn’t let me and Totto past. Next day I visited the footpath Wizard of Oz for some help. I followed the internet road to the Wizard’s online castle where I was given magic unique reference numbers and thanked before being shown the door.
When I asked the Wizard to move the Wicked Witch in the form of hefty security gates the footpath Wizard of Oz lost his courage, then his brain and then his heart. He said the Wicked Witch in the form of hefty security gates had been there since 1952 and was seen there in 1985 too and he was a bit scared of her. That was a friendly Witch in the form of a field gate and in a different place I said but no the footpath Wizard of Oz went off into his internet castle to form a view on what spells to cast and what priority this might take and what he might do,if anything,if ever…..
The old footpath Wizard of Oz might want to have a read of this judgement when “forming a view”
